SOUTHEASTERN COASTS
This photo series covers the beaches and wetlands of the Northern Gulf Coast of Florida & the Atlantic Coast of South Carolina. These regions have extensive coastal and intercoastal wetlands which are some of the most dynamic and biodiverse ecosystems in the world. Protected through conservation, parks and private lands are home to rare, endemic species and unique ecosystems that occur almost nowhere else on the globe.
National forests and wildlife refuges along the coast are pictured below like Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge in South Carolina and Point Washington State Forest in Florida. Also highlighted are some of the special wildlife and scenery around coastal towns nearby like Hilton Head Isle, SC and Rosemary Beach, FL. In addition to the richness of wildlife, especially birds, these places are home to some of the darkest skies in the Eastern U.S. and a great place to view the stars.
